As we begin 2024 many fear the future, the elections, the looming wars, the economy and where our nation might be going, IF nothing changes. We could easily get worried, fearful and complain. But what does God want – You may have heard this verse so much that it lost its punch. Let’s look at it with a new set of eyes and ears.
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves & pray & seek my face & turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” [2 Chron. 7:14 NLT]
Clarion call means a battle cry to prayer. Let’s break down the call. “If my people” – those who belong to God. That’s all believers. “Who are called by My Name” – those who call themselves Christians. “Will humble themselves” – recognize only God can bring healing to our city, county, state and country. “And pray”- which is a form of humility, realizing we need to petition the One who made our land and all its inhabitants. “And seek My face” – to look for God’s countenance and will on the requests we ask. What does God want for our city, county, state and country? What pleases God? What doesn’t? “And turn from their wicked ways” – admitting first what we are doing that is wrong, nationally & personally, and turning and doing the right thing. “Then I will hear from heaven” – God will listen to and act upon this type of prayer from His people, humbly praying & seeking Him & turning from sin. “I will forgive their sin” – as far as the east is from the west. “And will heal their land” – purify it, repair what’s been broken, make it fresh and take care of it.
To start this formidable year, we are calling every believer that receives this message to unite in prayer and repentance. Each weekday, we will focus on a “wicked way” that our city, county, state and country have committed. We will pray, in some cases, as intercessors, on behalf of the sin of others. Some days we may find the Holy Spirit revealing an area that we need to address. The goal? To see our tarnished nation, revived & returned to its roots, “One nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for ALL.” Will you answer the clarion call and say Yes Lord I will pray?
